FAQ
Terpenes are responsible for the strain specific aromas and flavors of cannabis. Terpenes as a VOC are very susceptible to degradation.
As the cannabis industry evolves the terms Indica, Sativa and Hybrid will no longer be used as the rudimentary description of cannabis effects. This will be replaced with a greater understanding of terpene blends and their specific effects. Educated consumers will have a more focused or tailored experience.
The short answer, NO.
The long, NO – terpenes regardless of organic source material are 100% natural. Meaning a terpene collected from the cannabis plant is the same terpene collected from roses, black pepper, lemons, pine trees, lavender etc. Limonene is such regardless of source material.
Both cannabis and non-cannabis extracted botanical terpenes, depending on the wholesale program a client chooses.
Terpenes native in the flower off gas and occupy the headspace in your AIRTIGHT packaging. Each time the package is opened those occupying terpenes escape. When you reseal, the process repeats. The flower’s terpenes will again off gas and occupy the headspace. As this is repeated over and over the terpene levels are exhausted.
The Terpods system is formulated to infuse terpenes lost during the time from harvest, to packaging from first to last use.
The terpenes present in our Terpods, off gas inside the packaging. By doing so, partial pressure counteracts any native terpene loss from the cannabis flower. In other words, the flower’s terpenes have nowhere to go, thus are retained within the flower’s structure
Our test studies indicate the largest waning of terpenes occurs from COA/packaging to first time use. The integrity of the packaging will determine this rate but expect 30-80% terpene loss during this time.
From first to final consumption, expect up to 100% terpene loss.
Yes, the volumes of terpenes used in our system are meant to preserve and rebalance the plants’ native terpene concentrations. Terpods can also introduce specific blends which target terpenes within the flower.
Terpods can restore these profiles to similar levels found typically after one day post curing. Terpene profile levels are vastly different from the first day post curing to the first time a consumer opens the packaging. From curing to market can range from 1 to 3+ months. Much has changed during this period.
Our pods are intended for one 1/8th of cannabis flower or up to a one-gram pre-roll.
Terpods ratios can be adjusted for varying cannabis portions/weights/quantitiess.
For cannabis flower as little as 2 hours but best results are 12+ hours.
For pre-rolls, due to the density of the material, it takes approximately 24 hrs. for the full effect.
While we plan future testing to measure for such, anecdotal evidence suggests similarities to a desiccant pack designed to maintain humidity. We believe, and there is some evidence to support, that the added moisture from the Terpods will envelope the plant’s inherent terpenes. Thereby slowing the drying process.
It is a chemical free natural plant fiber.
Within an airtight package, theoretically forever. After the package is initially opened, the expiration will depend on consumer care. Leaving the package open for extended periods of time will simultaneously cause the native terpenes to escape as well as those present in the Terpod. Expect up to 60 days under optimal opening and closing conditions.
Terpenes are a VOC, and as an organic material can be susceptible to mold. Our use by date will be 1 year in an airtight, unopened package.
Yes, provided the consumer took the care described in the previous question.
